Hawaii 2004 November 15

I made it back to the Mainland after a few days in Hawaii. I only went to one island (Oahu) since I wasn’t going to be there long. My nights were planned with going to the sprint car races at Hawaii Motor Speedway in Eva Beach, HI. The track is a 1/3 mile clay oval. The track itself was in pretty good shape each night. The shows could have run off quicker (almost 5 and ½ hours for a 2 division show is not good). I guess that what happens when you are the only show in town. Oh well, another state down in my quest for all 50.

Besides going to the races I did a lot of sight seeing. I also hiked up Diamond Head Crater. It is about a 0.8 miles – all up hill – to the top. The views on the top were excellent, as was just the views everywhere along the shore lines. Overall it was a nice time, but I would have preferred a different island that may not be as crowded. There was a lot of traffic and just too many people.

Oh well, I better get back to looking over my presentation I’m giving tomorrow at Internet Librarian on Open Source Intergrated Library Management Systems in Monterey California. I’ll report more on my trip latter.
