LVS update 2004 November 21

Someone asked me on the LUG/IP IRC channel yesterday how I liked my LVS. So, I figured an update here would be a good idea. In three words “I like it.”

Since I signed up for my LVS with Redwood Virtual I have had very little problems. I have not had any known downtime caused by the provider and for the price, the performance has been more then adequate. The only problem I have found was the default swap size (64 Mb) on the smallest LVS that Redwood offers (which is what I bought), was way too small. I had problems using yum because it would seg fault because it would run out of available memory. I increased the size and I haven’t had any problems since. A friend of mine who also has an LVS from Redwood had the same problem and since he increased his swap, he has not had any issues. I would recommend anyone considering an LVS to do the same, or at least monitor it closely to see if you need increase the amount of swap.
