Western Springs Speedway was there before them 2004 December 21
Looks like Western Springs Spedway in New Zealand is being held hostage by about 70 people. In an article that appeared in The New Zealand Herald, Peter Chatteris is telling people who moved next to a race track to deal with it.
Chatteris’ basic argument is that you have freedom to choose, and you should live with those choices, even if it means hearing a few race cars. This same type of thing happened recently at the famous Englishtown Raceway Park in Old Bridge NJ recently. Luckily for Englishtown, they were able to win (at least for now) the battle. I don’t know all the details, but I hope this can be worked out and racing can continue. One of the places I want to go is to New Zealand, and a large part of it is to see the races (as well as catch and release a few trout).
Springs will not close. There would be chaos for those involved with the petition and quite frankly they would be the enemies of most kiwis! The council has conveniently “lost” the document relating to the noise limit anyhow so the envirenmental court can’t rule against the speedway.
I agree with my music teacher Peter chatteris, The speedway is such a cool thing to watch. i have attended many races there and it has been fun to watch.
Why havent the residents complained earlier, why now and if they are complaining…why did them move there in the first place?
Its kind of like ericson stadium, it may be a bit noisy but it brings money to the communities. i just think the residents are just stupid.
