New Egypt Speedway no heat race rumors 2005 January 23
I didn’t go to the New Egypt Speedway Banquet this year for a number of reasons, 1) I don’t have any reason to go, 2) it was snowing, and 3) it was the same day as the Atlantic City TQ races, which if it wasn’t for #2, I would have went to. However, I know some people who did. The rumor going around was that they are not going to have heat races this coming year. The drivers running the fastest in the warm-ups would go directly to the main event. This is ridiculous!
I can understand them wanting to speed up their 6 and 1/4 hour show. Heck they need to. However this is a stupid way of doing it. Maybe if they just ran the show better and stopped fooling around, they could get the show done quicker. I’ve already talked to a few people and they all say that if New Egypt Speedway does this they will not go to New Egypt as often. This includes me. Because I am a nice guy, I will offer the track some advice:
- Start the show on time. The track is usually decent at this, but usually they start late.
- Have all the warm ups before the starting time. For some reason the track insists on having modified warm ups during the show.
- Move the Show along! Why do the cars have to drive multiple laps during every caution after they are already lined up? Same thing when they start the races, stop wasting time.
- Clean up accidents quicker. While New Egypt isn’t the worse track at this, it could be done quicker.
- Stop with the gimmicks that delay the races. I know some people like all the giveaways, but doing them only during intermission. While I’m on the giveaways, they should be done based on the arm-band number not on names stuffed into a box. Ever here of ballot stuffing?
- Time Limits. Have a set, announced time limit to each race and stick with them. Don’t waste time in the beginning and then all of a sudden be surprised when you are running out of time at the end of the night.
- Black Flag drivers that purposely bring out the yellow.
- Don’t hold up the races so the announcer can tell us about his family. We don’t care. I’m sure his family is a bunch of nice people, but I don’t know them. If you want to talk to them, call them on the telephone during the week or at least do it off mic.
Those are just a few ideas off the top of my head on how to speed up the show. Basically they need to just keep it going and stop fooling around.
