Off to Tulsa, OK for the Chili Bowl 2005 January 5

I’m off to the Chili Bowl. Hopefully the weather won’t effect the flight any (or at least not much). Rumor has it that the hotel has Internet access. If I can get on from the hotel, I’ll try to post some updates.

BTW: Congrats to Southern Cal football team for winning the Orange Bowl. They really dominated. However, I still don’t agree with the announcers that no one can question if they are “the true” number one. As long as there are two other undefeated teams, it can be questioned.

Josh Pelkey won the first ever USAC New Years day race. 2005 January 2

Josh Pelkey of Phoenix, Ariz. led all 40 laps of Saturday afternoon’s inaugural “Roger McCluskey Classic” USAC Southwest Sprint Car race at the brand-new USA Race Park in Tucson, Ariz.

It looks like they had a nice field of 32 cars including some top drivers such as Corey Kruseman, Damion Gardner, Jon Stanborough, Tony Elliot and others invaded. This is a race to keep an eye on for a couple of years as it may turn into an event to add to my “to see” list.

Boxing Day races at Western Springs Speedway “a nightmare” 2005 January 1

I jut read another article in the The New Zealand Herald about Western Springs Speedway. They tried to get there big “Boxing Day” race in, but because of the noise limits could only have four cars on the track at a time. Apparently the 10,000 fans in attendance were patient “but last night’s Boxing Day meeting was a nightmare.” (more…)

Rumble in Ft. Wayne

I have never been to Ft. Wayne for the midget races at the 1/10-mile Ft. Wayne (Ind.) Memorial Coliseum. This may have been the year I should have went. Tony Stewart, racing as Mike Fedorcak in the famed Munchkin midget that dates back to the 1970′s, came from seventh to the lead in 14 laps to win the first night. On the second night (of two), Dave Darland came from the rear to win. Darland started eighth, but spun out early and had to go to the rear. Maybe this year (in about 363 days!) I’ll get there. My first race of the year is not to far off as Wednesday night I’ll be in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the Chili Bowl.

Happy New Year

I hope everyone had a nice, safe New Years Eve. I went over a friends house for dinner and to celebrate. I had a pretty good time.

A prosperous 2005 to all.
