Super Bowl 2005 February 7

I went over a friends house to watch the Super Bowl last night. I didn’t really care who won, but since the party consisted of Eagles fans, I decided that I’d be the antagonist and pick the Patriots (that, and I thought they were going to win). Above everything I was hoping for a good game.

The game was very good, although I don’t think it will go down as a classic.. It was close and had some drama I thought the Eagles made some really bad choices, esp. Donovan McNabb and head coach Andy Reid. McNabb made some really bad throws and some other bad choices. A few questions: Why did they abandon the running game so early in the first half (at one point they threw the ball 11 straight times). Why did they waste so much time when they were down by 1o points? They should have been in the hurry-up offense. Even after they got the ball back in the last minute they were wasting time. I put the blame for the horrible clock management right on the head coach. Being that I get Philadelphia TV and thus watch a lot of Eagle games, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised as clock management has never been a strong point for Reid. BTW: I found all of this hype about Terrell Owens injury ridiculous. I’m glad he played, and had a productive game after some members the media kept on calling him “selfish” for wanting play. If I was paying all that money, I’d want him to want to play! If he tried and couldn’t play, it would have been on the coach to take him out – but as it was TO was probably the best player on the whole team in the game (and certainly was on the offensive end).

The funniest thing that happened was part of the pre-game show. Alicia Keys started off playing a song on the piano and singing. She then got up to sing, but the piano kept playing with no one there. I know they pretty much always use pre-recorded music, but after the slack other singers have gotten for lip syncing, you’d think they’d at least fake it. Why start her on the piano if she isn’t going to play it? Put someone else there or don’t even bother with it.
