I’m a little late with this update, but it wasn’t because it was a bad race. In fact, it was probably the best NASCAR modified tour race I ever been too. I’m sure you can read about it somewhere on the web, so I won’t bore you with the details, but I’ll give you a few highlites…
First off the weather was great! The $45 pit admission was a little high, but it did allow us to get a good seat in the pit stands on the top row and talk to some drivers. The race was pretty interesting because of different pit strategy. Teddy Christopher was in the top 2 all day, until he decided to pit with less then 50 laps left. He was the last driver to pit. He came out of the pits about 13′th in line and made it up to third. It looked like he might finish there but a late caution bunched up the field with a green-white-checkered two lap shootout. Chuck Hossfield in second tried to get under the car of Zack Sylvester who was leading. This opened the door for Christopher to get under both of them. Sylverster didn’t want to see his first tour get away from him however ad he battled back and tried a bump and run in Christopher in turn 4 of the last lap. Christopher was able to keep his speed up despite the bump and drag raced Sylvester to the line. It was a photo finish and Christopher was declared the winner by 4 inches – the closest in NASCAR modified tour history.
