Stafford Motor Speedway, May 27 2005 2005 May 30

On Friday, May 27 Walter and I headed to New England for a weekend of racing over Memorial Day weekend. The plan was to see three nights of racing in three states. The races included the NASCAR modified tour at Jack Arute’s Stafford Motor Speedway on Friday night, a regular show at Bear Ridge Speedway in Vermont on Saturday night, and the NEMA midgets at Twin States Speedway in Claremont, New Hampshire on Sunday night. All three of these tracks would be new to me. (more…)

I’m in “Current Cites, May 2005″ 2005 May 25

Roy Tennant wrote a nice annotated citation to my article for Current Cites, May 2005. For those who don’t know what Current Cities is, it is “an annotated bibliography of selected articles, books, and digital documents on information technology” geared for those in libraries. The have an issue once a month that normally contains 8-12 annotated citations.

This is one of the many great things about Internet-based Open Access journals. Less then a month and a half after my submission deadline, it is already published and being read by librarians and others around the world. I’m really pleased with the response from my article in ISTL and the speed at which things get done. After this very positive experience with ISTL (and their editor), I won’t hesitate to submit another article to them if I get an idea that matches one of the topics they are looking for articles about.

Riverhead Raceway, Riverhead NY, May 14 2005 2005 May 15

Walter and I left his house a little after 12 noon to head to Riverhead Raceway. This was his first trip to the track while it was my second. I went there once before about two or three years ago. The worse thing about Riverhead is getting there. I don’t like dealing with traffic and until I get myself a private track chasin’ aeroplane, to get there you have to deal with traffic in NYC. Luckily, traffic wasn’t too bad by New York standards and we made it to the traffic in about 2.5 hours without too many issues. (more…)

Richmond Busch race 2005 May 13

I’m sure you can find a good report about this race in a million different places but I wanted to comment on the contact between Elliott Sadler and Carl Edwards at the end. Edwards may have gotten into Sadler a little bit, but Sadler was doing a some revisionist history in his post-race TV interview when he wouldn’t bump someone to take the lead. How the heck does Sadler think he took the lead from Johnny Sauter?

Baseball vs. Racing 2005 May 12

It is obvious to anyone the reads my blog or knows me that I am a big fan of local short track autoracing. However I don’t understand why some race fans and “motorsport journalists” complain about the price of going to a professional baseball game. I don’ get it. The people that complain just don’t have a clue. (more…)

New Egypt Speedway, May 7 2005 2005 May 7

I decided to stay local this weekend and go to New Egypt Speedway for the third time this year. One reason was I was hoping with their new format we would be able to get out of their early and I could watch the last 100 laps of the first night race at Darlington for the Nextel Cup series. That didn’t happen as the show lasted more then 5 hours. (more…)
