Baseball vs. Racing
It is obvious to anyone the reads my blog or knows me that I am a big fan of local short track autoracing. However I don’t understand why some race fans and “motorsport journalists” complain about the price of going to a professional baseball game. I don’ get it. The people that complain just don’t have a clue.
Minor league baseball games (which are more comparable to local short rack racing) are much less expensive then local short track racing. In fact, even Major League Baseball games can be cheaper then a regular show at a local short track. For instance, I went to an Arizona Diamondbacks game last month and I bought good tickets for only $15. They had tickets that were cheaper. Some under $10. By comparison the last local race I went to (for a regular show) cost me $16.00.
As I mentioned this was for the top level of baseball. Minor league games are an even better value. For instance Trenton Thunder or Lakewood Blueclaws tickets cost either $9.00 or $6.00 depending on the seat location. So I could go to more then 5 baseball games for every 2 local short track races. Baseball has other advantages for a casual sports fan as well. Nicer facilities, they start on time, the show is ran well, different concession stands, more promotions, etc.
Don’t get me wrong, I like short track racing, but to try to attack other sports for the costs, especially baseball, is at best ignorance. I think that instead of complaining about other sports, promoters should look at what they are doing right and see how they can incorporate it into their programs.
