Saturday found us going to see the IRL race and Silver Crown race at Richmond. After waking up, we took a ride downtown in search of Internet access. Our budget rate motel didn’t provide any and last year I stopped at a coffee shop/Internet cafe called Café Gutenberg which had good coffee and free Internet. Sadly the Internet wasn’t working so after I finished my coffee we went to the Richmond Public Library and we got online without a hitch. After surfing the web, we went back to the motel and headed to the track. Read the rest of this entry »

www. is deprecated is a movement that is trying to get websites to stop requiring people to type www. to connect to the site. For example, you should be able to type http://ecorrado.us to get to this site instead of having to type http://www.ecorrado.us. Or as they summarize, “use of the www subdomain is redundant and time consuming to communicate. The Internet, media, and society are all better off without it.” I’m all for this movement.

I just came a cross a website that will make a map of the states you have visited. I decided to use it to map the states I’ve seen races in. Here it is (click on the image to enlarge):

You can create your own visited states map.

Friday morning we left to goto Richmond International Raceway for the weekend. Richmond is the 13th track I’ve been to year and Virginia was the 9′th state of the year that I saw a race in. On tap was the IRL IndyCar series and the USAC National Sprints and Silver Crown Series. Friday night we saw IRL qualifying, Silver Crown qualifying, and the Sprint car qualifying and race. One nice thing USAC did was instead of having a last chance race for the Silver Crown series which would have seen only two or three drivers get sent home, they decided to cancel the last chance race scheduled for Friday night and put everyone into Saturday’s feature. On Wednesday June 22 I went to the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series modified tour’s Garden State Gunfight race at my local track. This was the first of three races for the touring series at New Egypt this year Also on the schedule were the SS Sprints (Super Sportsman for those from PA). The race started about an hour late and the show was not run very good. However, the two features were excellent and more then made up for what was until then a lousy show. The Internet Librarian International 2005: Provisional Programme has been announced. Overall, it looks like a good conference for people in the library technology field, but I don’t think it will be in my plans since I’m not on the speakers list. However, if you think you can make it to London on October 10-11, check it out.

Once again I decided to stay close to home and took the 7 or so mile ride to New Egypt Speedway. Overall the racing was pretty good and we got out of there at a decent time. I can deal with a 4 hour show, although I still think it was at least 30 minutes longer then it should be. The worse part of the day was the wind which was blowing right towards us. I was going to go somewhere else, but I didn’t really feel like driving that much and I have other plans the next two weekends anyway so staying close to home was probably not a bad thing.
My 2005 racing stats after the June 18′th race at New Egypt:
Races: 19
Tracks: 12 (5 new)
States: 8 (0 new)

I just came across A Library Writer’s Blog. It lists CFP from many different places. It is not complete and doesn’t focus on tecnology in libraries, but it does seem pretty well done and one of the best such sites I’ve seen. If you are looking to present or publish in the library world it seems like a great resource.

The II Conferencia Internacional de Software Libre – Encuentro Internacional sobre Conocimiento Libre call for papers have just been announced. I received the call for papers on an e-mail list in English, but the website is currently only available in Spanish (although they have greyed-out places for English and Portuges). Seems like an interesting conference, but since I don’t speak or read Spanish, all I know about it is the call for papers. For those that are interested and don’t Speak or read Spanish, the call for papers is included below: Read the rest of this entry »
