Bear Ridge Speedway, May 28 2005 2005 June 2
On Saturday May 28 with went to Bear Ridge Speedway in Braford, Vermont. It was about 45 minutes to an hour from our hotel. We stayed near the Killington Ski Resort. On the ride to the track we passed a restaurant and road side snack bar in the form of a caboose that had a great smelling BBQ. Since we just ate we didn’t stop, but we kept this in mind for Sunday.
The ride to the track was rather uneventful and we pulled into the parking lot abut 4 PM and we were immediately transported back to 1968. That is the year the track was built and with the exception of a nice lap counter, they don’t appear to have done much to the track since. To add to the old-time feel, one of the divisions is sportsman Coupes – dirt modifieds with old coupe bodies. They also ran a few street stock type classes and 358 DIRT-type modifieds. We had a quick rain shower that delayed some of the action, but as the announcer informed us, if you can see the mountain the race will get in. Since we were surrounded by mountains, I don’t know which one he was referring to, but he was right, and we did get the full show in. The racing was very good, and I would be more then willing to pay $10 to get back into the track again for another night of racing. The car counts weren’t huge but they had enough cars to make the races entertaining. They also rain the show off rather well and we got out of there around 10:00 PM even with the rain delay (The races were scheduled to start at 6:30 PM). The food at the track was good too. The fries were cooked in peanut oil and very tasty. The cheeseburger was good too. And the prices were very reasonable. What Bear Ridge lacks in fancy amenities, it makes up with old-time charm and good racing.
My 2005 racing stats after the May 28′th race at Bear Ridge:
Races: 15
Tracks: 10 (3 new)
States: 7 (0 new)
I’ll report on the Twin States and Lime Rock races in separate posts in the next few days.
