Twin State Speedway, Claremont NH, May 29, 2005 2005 June 11
On Sunday, May 29′th we went to Twin State Speedway in Claremont New Hampshire to see the Northeastern Midget Racing Association. Unfortunately after getting a few hear races in the racing was canceled due to rain. On the way down from where we are staying we stopped for lunch at The Back Behind Saloon Restaurant for some tasty BBQ. The food was excellent and I highly recommend the place to anyone who happens to be near Killington, VT.
Once we arrived at the track I found it to have more seating then I thought. The facilities were nice and the track looked good. The only thing I didn’t like was that the stands were built into in the hillside, and they didn’t keep the grass (weeds?) between the planks mowed (or they could have used some Round-up maybe).
After a few heat races it started to rain, the storm didn’t last long and they were able to dry the track, however the rains came again and they had to cancel. This time. like at Bear Ridge, the announcer tried to tell us if we could see the mountain the races would get in (again, I don’t know which mountain) but he turned out to be wrong. I guess it only works in Vermont. Talking about Vermont, the other option for the night was Devil’s Bowl and they were rained out too, so we didn’t miss anything. They were going to run the races on Monday, but they rained out again. I heard they were going to try to reschedule the event, but I don’t think they have yet. All and all a nice track but we didn’t see much racing (although we did see enough to count the track). I plan on trying to get there again sometime and see a full show.
My 2005 racing stats after the May 29′th race at Twin State:
Races: 16
Tracks: 11 (4 new)
States: 8 (0 new)
A report on Lime Rock is still to come, as well as, weather permitting, a report on the ARDC midget races to be held at New Egypt tonight.
