An Open Letter to Home Depot 2005 July 30
Below is a letter I just sent to Home Depot. I encourage you to not shop there based on my recent experiences at this chain of stores.
Hello, I am writing today to say that I will no longer be a Home Depot customer because of the lousy service I had at a Home Depot store today that was repeated on the customer care telephone number. It took about 20 minutes to get a price corrected on an extension cord. This is ridiculous. This came on the heels of me trying to use the self check-out at another Home Depot and it malfunctioning and no one available to fix it for so long that I had no choice but to leave almost $200 worth of merchandise on the counter and go to the “blue” home improvement store across the street. To make matters worse, when I called the customer complaint line when I got home, I basically got blown off after being on hold for over 10 minutes. What kind of “Customer Care” is that? I’ll tell you, it is absolutely none!
I’ve been a loyal Home Depot customer for years but no longer. After my experience in the store today, I was willing to still be a customer (although it was getting to the point that your store would not be my first choice as it has been for years), but after the “Customer Care-NOT” I received on your complaint line, I am through. I will be going to Lowe’s and other home improvement stores from now on and encouraging all of my friends and family to do the same. I do not accept being treated this way by your company. For a $3.65 cent price error, you have lost a lot of upcoming business since I am about to remodel my kitchen and was planning on buying a refrigerator that I saw in your store today along with cabinets, a dishwasher, a stove, and flooring from your company. However, due to this poor service issue I will be spending my thousands of dollars on these items elsewhere.
Sincerely, your ex-customer,
Edward Corrado
[...] Some of you may remember my problems with Home Depot’s so-called customer service. Well, if I needed any reason to reaffirm my stance on not going there anymore, I just found a good one. They banned someone “last week from all Home Depots worldwide for [accidentally] pocketing a pencil” worth less then a penny after they spent over one hundred dollars in the store. Great customer relations by HD. The only good thing about HD is they sponsor Tony Stewart and J.J. Yelley. [...]
I can’t under stand how a company as large as Home Depot can treat customers so poorly. I signed my roofing contract on 9-14-05, Home Depot has now installed three roofs on my house and are getting ready to install the fourth one. They pay their contractors as little as possible and that is why they get poor quality contractors. Home Depot does not return phone calls, emails or letters for weeks or never. When you see my web page you can see the distruction they do to peoples lives and property. When you search the internet for “poor customer service from home depot” you can read for days, how do they get away with this?

this is the third letter iam writing to home depot , they haven’t answered yet .mr mathews at store # 6564 stated he wasent about to buy any more electric wheel chair’s ,they cost about 1500.00 + dollars . they have two one has been broke for over two month’s onley one left and two salvation army wheel chair’s probably donated . this mgr. is not handy caped friendly very curt about what he isn’t going to do . all depot stores have two chairs, walmart 10-12 chairs x’s three stores heb grocery stores 8-10 nice well maintained and replaced on regular basis. it is a shame that a chain department stores get away treating customers so very badley. i wouldn’t gripe so much but it’s not likely i will be able to grow another leg. i would at least like to see a change in the store management or policy.
