Reading Fair Slingshots, August 9, 2005 2005 August 16
On Tuesday, August 9, I went to the Reading Fair to see the Slingshots race on a small track at the New Reading Fairgrounds. For those who don’t know what a slingshot is, the look like a 1/3 size D.I.R.T. modified and are powered by a 35 h.p. Briggs and Straton engine. The track was a pretty small paper clip track. There was a good crowd on hand for the races. The fair was a pretty good value as your $8.00 admission included all rides, concerts, and the races.
The racing on the track was pretty tight and it was hard to pass, but the eventually winner did manage to do a good job in lapped traffic and it was rather enjoyable (and my 10′th new track of the year). The only disappointment for the day was the lack of food on a stick. Fairs should have lots of food on sticks and the only thing I could find was corn dogs. I was more looking for pork chops, tenderloins, or even a vegetable shish kabob. Anyway, I settled for some tasty perogies for dinner.
My 2005 racing stats after the August 9′th race at Reading:
Races: 32
Tracks: 20 (10 new)
States: 13 (3 new)
