New Egypt Speedway – September 17, 2005 2005 September 18

Saturday, September 17′th was supposed to close out the points races at New Egypt Speedway. However, 2 divisions didn’t get their feature in due to inept management. The super stocks (Rob Ormsbee won the championship) and the modifieds (Frank Cozze) did get the races in and had the championships decided. However, due to an extremely poorly ran show with no regard to the fans and the management being more concern about selling hot dogs, we didn’t get to see a Sportsman or SS Sprint feature. I feel like I’ve been had again by this track once again.

The racing itself is usually good, they have plenty of good drivers, and it is close by so I go to NES more then anywhere else, but when things like this happen, it makes me wish I went somewhere else to see a race or just went out with a few friends to see a local band and drink a few beers. They have the Internet and other means of communications in the office, so they had absolutely NO EXCUSE to not know that rain was coming. Even poor little me sitting in the stands was able to know rain was coming during intermission. So what does the NES management do? Do they rush the show along? No. Do they even try to move the show along at a normal pace? No. Instead of these things, they take a long intermission. To make matters worse, even though some lighting was spotted in the distance, they take a long time interview the race winners and championship winners in victory lane instead of getting the next race started. The interviews are nice (I guess, at least someone must like them), but with bad weather coming they should have been held off to the end. Now everyone needs to come back next week to see how wins the Sportsman and SS sprints championship. Anyway, this has left a sour taste in my mouth. I’ll probably go next week only because I want to see Rich Rutski win the championship and because I’m going to Watkins Glen for the IRL race Sunday morning so I’m not going to go far, but I think if rain is on the horizon next year for any races at NES I’m either going somewhere else or staying home. I’ll also think twice about giving them money on nights I can stay home and watch the IRL or NASCAR on TV next year because of things like this.

Anyway, my 2005 racing stats after the September 17′th race at New Egypt:

Races: 41
Tracks: 24 (14 new)
States: 14 (3 new)
