Turkey Derby, Wall Township Speedway, Nov, 26 2005 2005 December 7
I know this is a little late, but on the Saturday after Thanksigiving I went to the Turkey Derby at Wall Township Speedway. On the agenda was three 50 lap races for the Wall modifieds and 100 lap race for tour-type modifieds. There was also some street stock races and Legend cars. All of the races had a little more yellow flags then I would have liked, but I guess they could have been worse. Of the four modified races, only one of them was won from outside the front few rows, but the racing was still not bad for the one grove Wall Speedway. The 100 lapper for the tour type modifieds was won by John Blewett III who inherited the lead when Teddy Christopher blew a tire. Teddy did charge back up to about 5′th but got caught up in an accident and that ended his day.
The first 50 lapper was won from the pole by Rich Mongeau. During this race both Tim Arre and Jimmy Blewett had problems which meant they had to start towards the back of the second 50 lapper. Both Arre and John Blewett put on a show coming from the back with Jimmy taking the win. Unfortunately for the fans who wanted to see another charge to the front (but fortunate for Jimmy Blewett) Blewtt pulled the pole starting spot for the third 50 lapper which he easily won. The only driver who seemed to be anywhere close to Blewett in speed was Arre, but he dropped out and that pretty much clinched the second win of the day for Jimmy Blewett.
This may have been my last race of the year. If so it was a pretty decent year.,with visits to 30 different tracks. The only disappointment really was the low number of new states (3). I still may end up at a post-Christmas race, so their is still hope to get to 49 or 50 races for the year.
My 2005 Stats after the Turkey Derby:
Races: 48
Tracks: 30 (17 new)
States: 15 (3 new)
