2005 race attendence summary and 2006 plans 2006 January 20

Since I ‘ve already been to four races in 2006, this may be a little late be my final race attendance stats for 2005 are as follows:

Races: 48
Tracks: 30 (17 new)
States: 15 (3 new)

This was about 10 less races then in 2004 but the same number of tracks visited. While I visited the same number of tracks in 2004 and 2005, I saw races at 4 more “new to me” tracks this past year. I also saw races in three more states then 2004 and added one more new state then I did in the previous year.

My goals for 2005 were 16 new tracks in 6 new states. I really feel short on the new states, but I did get to one more new track then I planned, so I’m happy about that.

For 2006, as long as I get to 13 new tracks I’ll be happy, as that will mean I’ll have seen races at 150 different tracks in my life. Although I only got to 50% of my goal of 6 new states in 2005, I think I’m going to keep the same goal of 6 new ones for 2006. I’d really like to get to 8 so I can get to 40 total, but I think that is a bit of a stretch for me to do this year. As far as the total number of races, my gut feeling is that I will go to about the same number or (more likely) a few less number of races in 2006 then in previous years. I’m not really going to set a total number of races – but if I were I’d set it to see less races in 2006 then 2005. The reason I say that is I think I’m planning to try to do a lot of other stuff this year that going to 57 races like I did in 2004 would just not give me enough time to do.

I haven’t come up with goals of specific races, states, and/or tracks to get too, but I really want to cross West Virgina and Maine off my hit list this year. I’m also tentatively planning on going to Colorado this summer, so that can be another state to get to a race, leaving me to come up with three other states to meet my goals. I figure one or two trips should easily get me to 6 new states — but that is what I thought last year, so who knows.

The new tracks (by state) for 2005 were:

Conneticut (2): Lime Rock Park, Stafford Motor Speedway
Indiana (3): Gas City I-69 Speedway, Lawrenceburg, Terre Haute Action Track
Illinois (1): Springfield Mile
Maryland (1): Potomac Speedway
Minnesota* (1): Canby Raceway
New Hampshire (1): Twin State Speedway
New York (1): Watkins Glen International
North Dakota* (1): Red River Valley Speedway
Ohio (1): K-C Raceway
Pennsylvania (3): Ace High Speedway, Hill Valley, New Reading Fairgrounds
South Dakota* (1): Huset’s Speedway
Vermont (1): Bear Ridge Speedway

* New states for 2005

My total number of tracks that I count using Trackchaser rules is now at 137 and I have seen races in 32 states and in two countries.

ecorrado.us » Mid-season race watching review Says:

[...] On January 20′th I set my 2006 race seeing goals. The main goals were 6 new states, 13 new tracks, and less races then last year (when I saw 48). Since it is now July, I figured I’d see where I am half way through the year. Well, the report is pretty much that I am right on track. I have seen races in three new states (Mississippi, South Carolina, and Louisiana). I am ahead of schedule with new tracks having been to 11 new ones so far and I am below the 48 race pace I set last year (having been to only 17 thus far). A few interesting things that come to mind for me. First is that I’ve seen 17 races at 14 different tracks with only the Chili Bowl being a repeat trip this year, and that I haven’t seen an outdoor race in New Jersey yet this season and the only outdoor track I’ve been to this year that I’ve been to before is Orange County (NY) – a track I haven’t been to in years. My goal of track diversity seems alive and well. [...]
