Presenting in Africa 2007 January 26
I usually don’t get too excited about being accepted to present at a conference. Sure, I’m usually happy and it feels good, but I’m really excited about my most recent acceptance letter. I have been accepted to speak at a IFLA 2007 SATELLITE PRE-CONFERENCE in Dakar, Sénégal. The pre-conference, “Managing technologies and library automated systems in developing countries: open source VS commercial options,” looks to have a number of interesting papers being presented about using Open Source in libraries located in developing countries. My paper is titled “An open source, open access journal database appliance : a proposal.” The program hasn’t yet been put on the Web, but the call for papers can be found at http://www.ifla.org/IV/ifla73/satellite10call-en.htm.
Will the general public (specifically: me) be able to view a recording of the video with free software media viewers?

I’m not sure if the event is going to be recorded (either on video or audio), let alone what format it will be in. It stills seems unpopular to record most library conferences for some reason. Usually the reason when I have asked about why they don’t record them is that they can’t afford professional quality production. Basically, the organizers say that “nothing is better then adequate.” I think there is more too it then that (like they want people to show up instead of watching the video). That said, I have never presented at IFLA before so I have no idea what there philosophy is. When I get more details I’ll let you know.
BTW: I noticed I originally had an incorrect link to the call for papers. This has been corrected in the original post.
Congratulations Edward!!!!!!
Hi,
Just read about your presentation at Peter Suber’s blog. Got a paper about this presentation? I’m really interested in Open Access for Development, so I’d like to read more on your proposal.
Thanks,
Ismael
Hi Ismael,
There will be a paper, but it hasn’t been published by IFLA yet. I’ll be sure to post something on my blog when it is published.
